In the first weeks of September we conducted an online survey to help us understand what businesses in Essex thought of design and branding. We did it to better understand what the thoughts of the businesses on our doorstep were. It will help us talk to our local market better, offer what you want as well as what you need!

This is our last update (the next will be one large infographic showing all the information – and more). This has changed the way we think about certain elements of our offer (including our website), so expect a few changes…

So, our final quick analysis bit. What do we think this all means? It does seem that although Essex see’s the huge benefit in branding, it doesn’t understand what branding should do. ‘Branding’ was first used to differentiated one cow from another. It’s actually much the same in this day and age (as well as the cows) it is used to differentiate your company from your competition, whilst at the same time ‘ticking boxes’ for your audience. If you’re not differentiated or memorable or fitting your price-point, then your branding isn’t doing its job!

Realistically this is probably because it was (as we have seen previously) done quite inexpensively. There are times when going for the cheaper option is a great idea. Mainly when you know the quality of the product. However, when it is your branding you are talking about you need to ensure that it is of the best quality. It will be one of the main ways your customers judge you by when they haven’t sampled your product or service.
