In the first weeks of September we conducted an online survey to help us understand what businesses in Essex thought of design and branding. We did it to better understand what the thoughts of the businesses on our doorstep were. It will help us talk to our local market better, offer what you want as well as what you need!

This is our usual quick analysis bit about what we think this all means? Our first reaction is that Essex is paying what they think is a fair price for design. This is regardless of cost and size. Whether this is good or bad is another question.
However, there are a great number of companies that would like to be doing more design work, but don’t feel they can ‘afford’ it. There seems that companies are feeling a slight disconnect between knowing that design is important (seen from #2) and feeling that they are able to make the outlay. Possibly, design isn’t being seen as an investment, it’s being seen more as a cost.
This area of the analysis has also shown that there is a large spread of what companies are paying (one noted that it was way above the £2000 maximum we asked about). This could mean that your competition values their brand more than you do.
